Amanda Delgado / Western

Amanda Delgado is a professional equestrian with a passion for horses that started as a child. She spent her childhood years at the barn, braiding her horses, going for trail rides, and competing in the occasional open show. In high school, she had to move to Japan and was forced to sell her horse. Amanda joined the US Army as a medic right after high school, however her army career was cut short when she was medically discharged.

Longing to have horses back in her life, she rescued a paint mare named Athena at the end of 2015. Athena had been beaten, starved, and neglected. Despite being told by vets and others to put Athena down due to her dangerous temperament and life-threatening leg injury, she gave her a chance and Athena miraculously recovered and turned into a stunning and sweet show horse. Together, they have won over 10 World Championship titles.

While completing her studies in Equine Business Management at St. Andrews University, she completed an internship under Carla Wennberg where she trained and developed horses in the western program at SAU. Amanda also rode on the IHSA Western team and the IDA Dressage team. She has since gone on to achieve many accomplishments in the equine world, including being a 4x World Champion and Reserve World Champion at the 2021 WDAA World Championship Show, as well as being a 2x World Champion and Reserve World Champion at the 2019 Pinto World Championship Show. Her primary discipline is western dressage, but she does participate in other disciplines such as ranch, working hunter, and other quarter horse events.

As a coach, trainer, and judge, she values the trust and effort her clients put into her and strives to help them achieve their goals in their horsemanship. Her goal is that each person she works with walks away with a better understanding of how to communicate with their horse and the confidence they need to achieve their goals. One of her greatest joys is cheering her clients on while they grow into better horsemen and hit milestones towards their goals.
