BROOKE USA IS HERE TO HELP IN TIMES OF DISASTER RELIEF.
With every county in Texas impacted by the Artic cold front and winter storm Uri, Brooke USA has launched an emergency appeal to help equines in need.
With about a million horses, Texas is home to more horses than any other state in America. The rugged countryside and harsh conditions have always made these equines sturdy and strong, yet everyone was unprepared for temperatures, sometimes, lower than those in Anchorage, Alaska. Even with temperatures now on the rise, the damage has already been done. The aftermath of the freezing weather will be felt for weeks to come with continued power outages, flooding and potential water contamination.
“We are highly concerned about horses and their owners, and how they are all doing under these unusual circumstances,” said Katherine Kaneb, Chair of Brooke USA’s Board of Directors. Dwayne Hildreth, Brooke USA’s Board member in Texas explained that “ranchers struggled to keep up with breaking the ice in water troughs and now that they must contend with water contamination. This is worrisome as we know how important it is to keep the horses and, of course, other livestock hydrated.”
Brooke USA is connecting with animal disaster relief organizations in Texas to help both domesticated and wild horses in the state. Follow us on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn for updates.
