Brooke USA Foundation proudly announces the launch of a month-long celebration to honor the remarkable legacy of Dorothy Brooke, the namesake of the organization and founder of the Brooke Hospital for the Animals (now Brooke: Action for Working Horses & Donkeys). Throughout June, Brooke USA will commemorate Dorothy's enduring impact on the welfare of working horses, donkeys, and mules worldwide through a series of engaging celebratory activities and purposeful initiatives.
Dorothy dedicated her life to alleviating the suffering of equines in the aftermath of World War I. Moved by the plight of war horses abandoned in Cairo, Egypt, Dorothy embarked on a mission to provide them with essential care and compassion. Her unwavering commitment laid the foundation for Brooke, the global charity that continues to transform the lives of working horses, donkeys, and mules in some of the world's poorest communities, and serves as the sister organization of Brooke USA.
To honor Dorothy’s extraordinary contributions, Brooke USA invites supporters to participate in various activities and initiatives:
Share Your Equine Story: Throughout the month, individuals are encouraged to share photos and stories of their equine companions on social media platforms using the hashtag #BrookeLegacy. By highlighting the special bond between humans and horses, participants will pay homage to Dorothy’s enduring legacy of compassion.
Celebrate Dorothy's Birthday: Today, June 1st, join Brooke USA by launching your own one-month plan to celebrate Dorothy’s birthday. Organize equine-themed gatherings, fundraisers, or virtual events in your community. Whether it's a birthday party for your horse or another loved pet, a tea party for your friends or a gathering of barn-mates, every effort honors Dorothy's compassionate spirit.
